Graeme Thorne murder, 1960

Photographs and articles from The Sydney Morning Herald archive relating to the kidnapping and murder of Sydney schoolboy, Graeme Thorne.

In July 1960, 8-year-old Sydney schoolboy, Graeme Thorne, was abducted near his home in Bondi on his way to school. His parents, who had recently won the Opera House Lottery, received a ransom note from the kidnapper but they were never to see their son again. Six weeks later, Graeme Thorne's body was found under a rock ledge in Seaforth in northern Sydney.

Sydney father, Stephen Bradley, was convicted of Graeme Thorne's abduction and murder. The event changed Australians' relaxed attitude to allowing children to go unsupervised close to home.
